teshima: an island of water and art
Situated in the Seto Inland Sea, approximately between Kagawa Prefecture and Okayama Prefecture, Teshima is an island with an area of 14.5 km² and a population of about 900 people.
The spring water from "Karato no Shimizu," which is said to have never run dry, nourishes the terraced rice fields.
The illegal dumping of industrial waste that began in the 1970s became a nationwide issue of the largest scale, but now the removal of contaminated soil has been completed, and efforts towards environmental restoration continue.
Visitors to Teshima often remark on its "beauty," as the island attracts many people with its rich food and art.
Naoshima: Where contemporary art is part of daily life
Since the opening of Benesse House in 1992, Tadao Ando has been involved in creating accommodations such as "Benesse House," the "Chichu Art Museum," and the "Naoshima Contemporary Art Museum," turning the island into a sacred place for contemporary art that attracts visitors from around the world.
Takamatsu
Our home and the capital of Kagawa Prefecture. The gateway to the Seto-inland islands and where Art and Nature co-exist.
A unique location that brings the conveniences of city life to the harmonious blends of sea, islands and mountains with its beautiful scenery and mild climate making it the perfect place to enjoy the art.
Art, that there is much of, being a key venue of the Setouchi Triennale, it seeps into every corner and back alley of the city. From famous architect’s finest buildings, to more contemporary pieces or dedicated museums to artists like Isamu Noguchi or George Nakashima.
Good food, good vibes and good art. Natural and cosmopolitan. This place has it all.
